Let’s get this conversation started.
/ CLARIFY CORE MESSAGE & EMOTION
Pin down the central theme or feeling of the song. Ensure every line serves and supports this main idea. Ask: What is this song really trying to say or make the listener feel?
/ STRENGTHEN STRUCTURE
Evaluate the overall form (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.). Make sure it flows well, has contrast where needed (e.g. between verse and chorus), and builds emotionally. Confirm it follows or intentionally breaks songwriting conventions with purpose.
/ IMPROVE LYRICAL IMPACT
Look for clichés to replace with fresher, more original lines Enhance imagery, metaphor, and emotional depth. Check for rhyme consistency, internal rhymes, or near rhymes if appropriate.
/ REFINE MELODY
Ensure the melody supports the emotion and dynamics of the lyrics. Adjust phrasing to fit better with lyrical revisions. Watch for melodic hooks and memorable moments.
/ POLISH WORD CHOICE & FLOW
Ensure lyrics sing smoothly (e.g. natural vowel sounds on long notes, avoid tongue-twisters). Adjust for rhythm, syllable count, and line length consistency. Prioritize conversational,powerful, or poetic language as the style demands.
/ DEFINE VISION
Discuss the artist’s goals, message, and emotional intent for the song. Identify references: what songs, sounds, or artists inspire the project? Clarify genre, mood, tempo, and target audience before you begin.
/ REFINE SONG
Evaluate lyrics, melody, and structure — make sure the song is emotionally and musically strong. Suggest rewrites or arrangement changes where necessary (verse/chorus lengths, bridges, hooks, etc.). Ensure the song’s story and dynamics are clear and engaging.
/ PLAN ARRNGEMENNT AND INSTRUMENTATION
Decide which instruments and sounds best support the song’s emotion. Create a rough arrangement map: intro, verses, choruses, bridge, outro. Consider layering, dynamics, and space — where each instrument enters or drops out.
/ CREATE A DEMO OR PRE-PRODUCTION TRACK
Record a simple version (scratch vocal, basic instrumentation) to test ideas. Experiment with tempo, key, and feel — adjust based on what fits the artist’s voice and vibe. Use the demo to identify what’s missing or needs improvement.
/ PLAN TECHNICAL SETUP
Choose the recording space, gear, and session players if needed. Decide on tempo map, click track, and guide tracks. Prepare session files, name tracks clearly, and ensure all pre-recording logistics are ready.
/ REHEARSE & PREPARE FOR RECORDING
Run through the song with all performers to tighten timing, tone, and energy. Make sure the artist is comfortable and confident with their parts. Confirm that everyone understands the arrangement and transitions before tracking begins.
/ PRE-PREP
Rehearse the song until artist knows every lyric, melody, and transition confidently. Practice with the exact tempo and key you’ll record in. Have a demo version or reference track to guide tone, emotion, and structure. Warm up your voice or instrument before you hit “record.”
/ THE STUDIO
A cozy recording environment with minimal background noise or echo, treated with acoustic foam panels for optimal sound dampening. Microphone placement and gain levels set for clear, warm audio without distortion.
/ QUALITY GEAR & SETTINGS
You’ll be recording on high quality condenser mics to ensure great vocals and employ a pop filters and software help capture clarity and reduce plosives. We record at 44.1kHz / 24-bit (standard for professional audio).
/ ARTIST DIRECTION
We’re aiming for a great artist performance. We’ll encourage and listen for emotion and delivery. The best takes are felt, not just sung or played. We’ll assist you to getting your best performance for your audience and for the story you’re telling.
/ ORGANIZE & CLEAN SESSION
Label and color-code every track (vocals, drums, guitar, etc.). Trim silence, remove clicks, pops, and background noise. Align timing (quantize or nudge parts) and fix any pitch issues before mixing. Group similar tracks (like background vocals or drums) for easier control.
/ GAIN STAGING
Set Proper Levels. Ensure no track is clipping. Leave ample headroom (around -6dB to -3dB on the master). Balance faders without plugins. Obtain a natural sounding mix before adding effects. Use panning to create space and stereo width (e.g., guitars slightly left/right, vocals centered).
/ SHAPE SOUND
We’ll use EQ to shape the sound. We’ll cut before boosting and remove unnecessary low-end rumble (below 80 Hz on non-bass tracks). We’ll clear mud around 200–500 Hz if the mix sounds cloudy and boost presence (around 3–5 kHz) for clarity in vocals and instruments. We’ll give each track its own frequency space so elements don’t compete.
/ COMPRESS, BALANCE, & CONTROL
We’ll apply compression to even out dynamic. Light compression on vocals, helping to keep volume consistent. We’ll apply bus compression gently on drums or the master mix to glue everything together. We’ll adjust attack/release times so the track breathes naturally.
/ ADD EFFECTS
Effects provide depth and emotion and we’ll employ them as needed. We’ll add reverb and delay to create a sense of space and use automation to change effect intensity or volume over time for dynamics. We’ll add subtle chorus, saturation, or tape warmth if the track feels too sterile, while always keeping in mind the vision of the artist.
/ FINALIZE MIX
While the mix is coming together, we’ll be comparing it regularly to a professional reference track in a similar style. We’ll also mix on different speakers, headphones, and even the car. Once the mix is balanced, we’ll bounce a stereo mix out with the necessary head room for mastering.
/ EQ ADJUSTMENTS
We’ll us a linear-phase EQ to fine-tune the overall tone and Gently boost or cut to correct broad frequency imbalances: Add warmth around 100–200 Hz if it feels thin, cut muddiness around 250–500 Hz, and add brightness around 8–12 kHz if needed.
/ COMPRESSION & DYNAMICS
Gentle compression will be applied to glue the mix together. We’ll use multi-band compression if certain frequency ranges (like bass or vocals) need tighter control while maintaining a focus on preserving dynamic range.
/ LIMITING & LOUDNESS OPTIMIZATION
We’ll increase loudness gradually while avoiding distortion and aim for streaming platform targets, (approximate LUFS):
* Spotify: -14 LUFS
* YouTube: -13 LUFS
* Apple Music: -16 LUFS
/ QUALITY CHECK & EXPORT
* Bypass processing occasionally to compare **before and after**.
* Check **stereo width** and ensure mono compatibility.
* Apply fades and metadata (artist name, title, ISRC if applicable).
* Export your **final master** as:
* WAV (24-bit, 44.1kHz or higher) for distribution
* MP3 for sharing/demo purposes
